Sanur is one of Bali's most pleasant towns to ride a scooter in. The roads are relatively calm compared to Kuta and Seminyak, the beach promenade is flat and beautiful, and the local back streets are easy to navigate. It's a great place to build your confidence if you're a first-time Bali rider.

Sanur is also strategically positioned for east Bali exploration. Ubud is 45 minutes inland, the Nusa Penida fast boat terminal is nearby, and Padangbai (for Lombok ferries) is less than an hour east. A scooter turns Sanur into the perfect base for the whole island.

Start with the promenade. The 5 km beachside walking and cycling path between Sanur Beach and Mertasari is flat, scenic, and almost traffic-free — a beautiful introduction to Bali riding.

Hit the morning market early. Sindhu Market is most lively between 5am and 7am. Ride down on your scooter, grab fresh fruit and local breakfast, and be back at your villa before the heat sets in.

Use the bypass for speed. When heading to Kuta or Nusa Dua, Jl Bypass Ngurah Rai is the fastest route — avoid the coastal roads during rush hour.
